St Mary’s Educational Society

St. Mary’s Junior College (SMJC), Basheerbagh , was established in 1982 by the Saint Mary’s Educational Society as its flagship institution, setting a benchmark for quality intermediate education. From its inception, SMJC has distinguished itself as a leader in academic excellence, quickly becoming the preferred choice for students in Hyderabad. This demand led to the expansion of the college with a second campus in Yousufguda in 1995.

At SMJC, education extends beyond academics. Our holistic approach ensures that students grow into well-rounded individuals with a strong sense of nationalism, transcending barriers of religion and community. We are committed to identifying and nurturing talent, guiding students to reach their full potential, and empowering them to become leaders and change-makers. We believe that education is not merely the acquisition of knowledge but the development of the body, mind, and spirit.

Over the years, St. Mary’s Junior College has built a reputation for consistently producing top-ranking students in IPE, EAMCET, and IIT, with many gaining admission to prestigious institutions both in India and abroad.

Our state-of-the-art campus features spacious classrooms, a well-stocked library, advanced laboratories, and student-friendly amenities such as a canteen and ample parking. In addition to academic excellence, SMJC offers a wide range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and leadership. Our innovative teaching methods, coupled with a highly dedicated faculty and excellent infrastructure, make the learning experience both enriching and meaningful.

Our academic team is committed to a systematic approach, ensuring that students are evaluated through regular tests and exams. Performance is closely monitored through Staff Meetings, Parent-Teacher Meetings, and Individual Review Programs (IRP) to ensure that students receive the guidance they need to excel.

A key feature of our college is the Mentor-Ward System, which provides personalised mentorship for each student. Mentors closely monitor their wards, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, offering tailored support. Freshers are welcomed with comprehensive orientation programs, reinforced by Value Education classes, regular Mentor-Ward meetings, and Parent-Teacher meetings throughout the academic year.

With a steadfast focus on delivering quality education, SMJC provides students with ample resources and opportunities to thrive. Our management and faculty are dedicated to fostering an environment of excellence, ensuring that every student has the tools to succeed both academically and personally.

Striving for Excellence Excellence is the quality of excelling, of being truly the best and great in something. Achieving excellence is never easy to do. Excellence is a quality that people really appreciate, because it’s so hard to find. It is the gradual result of always striving to become better. Striving for Excellence involves trying to put quality into everything you do, and this attitude tends to separate the achievers, who make rapid strides in their career from others. “Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident” – said, Dr.Abdul Kalam. Excellence is not a destination; it is a continuous journey that never ends. Academic excellence is more than just making good grades. It is the ability to perform, achieve, and excel in scholastic activities. But, excellence is not just limited to your academic excellence but goes beyond into your professional, business, social life in general like Excellence at the Workplace, Business Excellence etc. Whatever is your discipline, become a student of excellence in everything. Take every opportunity to observe people who are masters in something. These models of excellence will inspire you and guide you towards the fulfilment of your highest potential. The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential, these are the keys that will unlock the door of personal excellence. Always seek to excel yourself. Put yourself in competition with yourself each day. Each morning look back upon your work of yesterday and then try to beat it. Following are some tips on striving for excellence:
  • Have the hunger for excellence.
  • Benchmark against the best.
  • Believe that you can do it.
  • Build concrete strategy & plans.
  • Go all out; Work really hard.
  • Stay focussed.
And finally, don’t chase success, pursue excellence and success will come looking for you!! – T V N Asha Murthy
